The Little Goose, a café and micro bar, wants to sell alcohol from noon at 126 Aldsworth Avenue, Goring. Residents can comment until 29 October.

A new café and micro bar called The Little Goose is planned for 126 Aldsworth Avenue in Goring. It has applied to Worthing Borough Council for a premises licence to sell alcohol to drink on the premises.

The council’s list of current licensing applications sets out the hours asked for. The application was served on the council on 1 October, according to the public notice published on 15 October. Neither gives an opening date.

The hours applied for

The Little Goose, 126 Aldsworth Avenue: hours in the licence application
DaysOpen to the publicAlcohol sales
Monday to Thursday8am to 10.30pmNoon to 10pm
Friday and Saturday8am to 11pmNoon to 11pm
Sunday8am to 10pmNoon to 9.30pm

So it would open as a café from 8am, with the bar side starting at noon. The application covers alcohol only. It does not ask for live or recorded music, or for hot food after 11pm.

The council says the applicant has supplied an operating schedule setting out how it would meet the four licensing objectives. Those are preventing crime and disorder, public safety, preventing public nuisance and protecting children from harm.

What happens next

The consultation closes on Thursday 29 October. If nobody makes a relevant representation, the council grants the licence without a hearing. If someone does and the concerns cannot be settled, it goes to a licensing hearing. The council has scheduled one for Thursday 26 November at 6.30pm, at Worthing Town Hall, if needed.

Aldsworth Avenue is in Goring ward, in the west of the borough. Our directory of local businesses lists what is already trading in the area.

What it means for you

  • If you want to support or object, write to the Licensing Unit at Worthing Town Hall, Chapel Road, BN11 1HA, or email licensing.unit@adur-worthing.gov.uk, by 29 October.
  • A representation has to be about one of the four licensing objectives, such as noise late at night. Whether you like the idea of a bar is not enough on its own.
  • The council warns that representations are passed to the applicant without redaction, and may be published in a hearing report.
  • If you want to read the full application, it can be seen at the Town Hall from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
