We checked 13 independent Worthing shops, from a 1928 jeweller to a new Warwick Street bookshop, for opening hours and addresses. Updated November 2026.

Worthing has 13 independent shops worth a Christmas shopping trip in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with opening hours, addresses and what each one sells. Tilly’s Bookshop, Whirligig Toys, Inspired on the seafront and the town’s two old jewellers, Heptinstalls and Jeremy Silverthorne, are the names most people land on. We checked each entry on 5 November 2026 against the shop’s own website, and say where we could not.

We have not shopped at any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. The starting point is the shopping directory of Worthing Town Centre BID, the business group that represents town centre shops, so its listing is not independent praise. Shops often change their hours close to Christmas, so check before a special trip.

Warwick Street and the Royal Arcade

1. Tilly’s Bookshop

Tilly’s opened at 45 Warwick Street in October 2026, as we reported at the time. The shop calls itself fiction-first: handpicked fiction, reader favourites and classics, children’s books chosen by a dedicated children’s bookseller, a small non-fiction section, and gifts and stationery.

Dates that affect a shopping trip

  • No switch-on: Worthing does not hold a Christmas lights switch-on; our lights page explains why.
  • Saturday 28 November: the Step into Christmas Market in Bath Place and a free Christmas fair at Bay Cafe on Thorn Road, both on our Christmas markets page.
  • Sunday 6 December: So This is Christmas, more than 65 craft stalls at the Charmandean Centre, also on the markets page.
  • Late-night shopping: we found no 2026 date on 5 November. In 2025, Colonnade House and a group of independents stayed open from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday 11 December. We will add this year’s date when it is announced.

Worthing Town Centre BID sells a Worthing Gift Card for spending at shops that take it. Trains between Brighton and Worthing do not run on 7 and 8 November; our Christmas travel page covers the festive timetable, and our parking page lists every car park.

How we chose

These are independent Worthing shops chosen on what can be checked: they sell things people give as presents, they are listed in Worthing Town Centre BID’s shopping directory or named in local Christmas shopping events, and they have a public record of their own. Whirligig and Comics, Games & Coffee have shops elsewhere, and we say so. We read each shop’s own website on 5 November 2026 and looked for closure notices. Where a shop’s site gives no hours, we used the BID directory and say so, and where the two disagree we used the shop’s. We left out shops whose websites had lapsed or which no longer open every week.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the independent shops in Worthing?

Most are in a short walk of each other: Warwick Street and the Royal Arcade, South Street and Montague Street, and the seafront end of Brighton Road, where First & Last, Heptinstalls and The Little Shop of Jules sit. This guide lists 13, grouped by street.

Is there late-night Christmas shopping in Worthing in 2026?

We found no 2026 late-night shopping date on 5 November. In 2025, Colonnade House and a group of independents, including First & Last, Inspired and The Little Shop of Jules, opened from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday 11 December. Worthing Town Centre BID had not listed a 2026 event.

Are Worthing’s independent shops open on Sundays?

Several are. Tilly’s Bookshop, Whirligig Toys, Spiral Jewellery, Comics Games & Coffee, Saturday 3pm, Inspired and First & Last all publish Sunday hours, mostly 10am or 11am to 4pm. Heptinstalls, Jeremy Silverthorne, Aurum, Greenfingers and Bijou Boutique are closed on Sundays.
